In fall 2024, we were pleased to honor the year’s Wetzel Community Leadership Award recipient Deborah Howell, CEO of Alexander Valley Healthcare and Spirit of Wetzel Award recipient Jade Weymouth, Executive Director of La Familia Sana. Longstanding champions of our region’s health and wellbeing, both Deborah and Jade demonstrate extraordinary community leadership and service in both their professional roles and across years of volunteer service. What a beautiful time we had on Saturday, June 8! We are so grateful to all of you who were able to share Noche de Amor 2024 — A Benefit for Health Justice with us, including all who could not join us in person but offered your support — your fellowship was felt and appreciated. 

As you know, this year we piloted a brand new approach to fundraising rooted in community-centered principles. We’re so pleased by the positive feedback and the number of people who donated at the event and, more than anything, by the inclusive spirit that we felt.

We have raised just over $300,000 and came close to our Fund-A-Need goal. If you would like to help us get to that goal, you can still do so by going here.

Wetzel Community Leadership Award Recipient Herman J. Hernandez

Wetzel Community Leadership Award recipient Herman J. Hernandez is a founder of the non-profit Los Cien. Los Cien serves as a liaison between the Latino community and the wider community by helping to create dialogue and common understanding, cultivating current and future leadership through education and civic engagement, and conducting educational and charitable activities that are consistent with this purpose.

Spirit of Wetzel Award Recipient Bernice Espinoza

Spirit of Wetzel recipient Bernice Espinoza is an immigration attorney working with Secure Families Collaborative of Sonoma County. Her role as the Removal Defense Attorney in coordination with Corazón Healdsburg focuses on building a compassionate and just community by empowering and dignifying individuals and families, advocating against injustices, and uniting people to celebrate diversity.

Believe in Our Future Virtual Gala

The Healthcare Foundation hosted its first-ever virtual gala, raising $453,380 for its granting programs including its Emergency Healthcare Fund. Herman G. Hernandez, member of the Sonoma County Board of Education, hosted the live-streamed event, which featured a diverse line-up of musical performances and special guests including U.S. Senator Kamala Harris.
